So we were in the Outer Banks this weekend, one of my most favorite places in the whole entire world. We were staying at a really great house in Southern Shores, enjoying the amazing weather and ton of sunshine. As blue as the sky was, without a cloud in it at all, it was difficult to believe that any kind of storm was headed our way. And of course, by Monday night we're glued to the television, waiting to see what this "Earl" thing is up to. So, to cut down to the main point, they evacuated Dare County. We were all packed up and ready to roll out when we got wind of the traffic. So we turned the news back on and saw that the chances were good that it wasn't going to be nearly as bad as they originally assumed. So, we took the chance and stuck it out.
Luckily, it ended up being about as bad as a rough summer thunderstorm... without the thunder and lightning. It did make for some pretty cool photos. I'm really glad there was no real damage done. I have to admit, I was a tad bit worried when they first started talking about the possibilities of a head on collision with the storm. It was a strong category 4 at the time, and I could only imagine the devastation that would be. Oy vey. But, we dodged the bullet, the storm simmered on down, and all went very well. I'm glad we didn't scadaddle on out of town.
